Traveling Museum on Deafness

EVER WONDER - How hearing works or what causes deafness? What it would be like to be deaf? How individuals who are deaf communicate with family and friends? What kind of technology is available for people who are deaf and hard of hearing?

Click here to watch a video on the Museum on Deafness.

When an organization hosts the Traveling Museum on Deafness, visitors will find answers to these questions and more.

Presented in both American Sign Language and spoken English, this fun and educational museum experience will enable participants to learn about the science of deafness, how individuals adapt to hearing loss and what makes Deaf Culture unique. Students will work together to try and communicate their thoughts & feelings without making a sound!

ICODA’s Traveling Museum is brought to you through funding received from the Northbrook Civic Center.

Guests will:

  • explore the mechanics of hearing;

  • learn about different types of hearing loss and what causes them;

  • check out the evolution of hearing technology;

  • learn about available adaptations for the Deaf Community;
